Privacy Policy — FolderHeat
Last updated: 6 November 2026
FolderHeat is a Mac app that changes the icons of folders you select in Finder. It is developed and sold by Shohei Yamaguchi as an individual.
The short version
FolderHeat never connects to the network. Nothing about you or your files leaves your Mac.
What the app uses
| Information | Use | Where it is kept |
|---|---|---|
| Sizes, counts and modification dates of the files inside the folders you select | To choose each folder’s color. File contents are never read | Not kept (counted on the spot) |
| Folder icons | Written to the folders you select, when you choose to | Inside those folders |
| Locations you allowed access to | So you aren’t asked again | On your Mac |
| Your paint settings and mark image | To reuse them next time | On your Mac |
The app has no ads, analytics, or tracking.
Purchases
Purchases go through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles your name and payment details; I don’t receive them.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes its settings and saved permissions. To remove icons you added, use “Remove Color” in the panel before deleting the app, or select the icon in Finder’s Get Info window and press Delete.
Changes
If this policy changes, this page and its date will be updated.
